Languages and currencies

Quote in your client's currency, and let them read your documents in their language.

4 min read

Pricely keeps two things separate: the currency a document is issued in, which is what your client owes, and the language your client reads it in, which they can choose for themselves.

Currencies

Each quote and invoice has its own currency. New quotes start in the currency set in Settings›Quote Defaults, and you can change it on any quote before you send it. Pricely supports these currencies:

CodeCurrencySymbol
USDUS dollar$
EUREuro€
GBPBritish pound£
CADCanadian dollarC$
AUDAustralian dollarA$
JPYJapanese yen¥
CHFSwiss francFr
SEKSwedish kronakr
NOKNorwegian kronekr
DKKDanish kronekr
INRIndian rupee₹

The currency follows the document

Once a document has a currency, everything that comes from it uses the same one:

  • Invoices from quotes keep the currency of the quote they came from.
  • Recurring invoices use the currency of the invoice the schedule was made from. See Recurring invoices.
  • Reminder emails show the balance in the invoice's own currency. See Reminders and late fees.
  • Late fees are added in the invoice's currency and rounded to that currency's smallest unit.
  • Card payments through Stripe are charged in the invoice's currency. Currencies without minor units, such as the Japanese yen, are charged in whole amounts.
  • Webhooks include a currency field with every quote and invoice event. See Webhooks.

Totals across several currencies

Pricely doesn't convert between currencies on your side either. The weekly summary email adds amounts in different currencies at face value, so treat it as a rough guide if you bill in more than one. Each quote and invoice always shows its own currency, so check the documents themselves for exact amounts.

Languages for your clients

The pages your clients open (a quote, an invoice and the client portal) can be read in:

LanguageShown as
EnglishEnglish
SpanishEspañol
FrenchFrançais
GermanDeutsch

Pricely picks the language from the client's browser. A client whose browser is set to Spanish, for example, sees the page in Spanish straight away. Clients can switch with the language picker at the top of the page, and their choice is remembered on that device.

The page text Pricely provides is translated: buttons, headings, status badges, totals labels, the accept and pay steps, and the portal sign-in. Dates and numbers follow the reader's language. What you write yourself, such as line item descriptions, notes and terms, appears exactly as you typed it, so write those in your client's language if you need to.

Currency estimates for clients

The same picker has an Estimate option. A client can pick a currency to see an approximate conversion beside the amount due, for example a client paying a US dollar invoice from Europe can check the rough euro amount.

  • It's a guide only. The page shows Approximate estimate only next to the real amount due. What the client owes, and what a card is charged, stays in the document's currency.
  • Live rates. Rates are fetched when the client picks a currency and kept for up to 24 hours on their device.
  • No rate, no guess. If a live rate isn't available, the page says Live rate unavailable. The amount due is unchanged. and shows only the original amount.
  • Choose As issued to go back to the document's currency alone.

Common questions

Can I show prices in two currencies on one quote?

No. Each document has one currency. Clients can use the Estimate option to see an approximate conversion.

Are Pricely's own screens translated?

The pages your clients open are translated. The Pricely app you work in is in English.

Are emails to clients translated?

Quote, invoice and reminder emails are sent in English. The page the client opens from the email follows their language.
